Personality:

Self-serving
- He does what he wants; most of his actions in life have been to further his own desires with little consideration for others

Arrogant
- He acts mostly as a hired sword or mercenary (assassinations mostly, but anything will do). He has authority issues though, and people often hesitate to hire him because of his fickelness when executing orders. It is only his reputation for a brutally flawless record that keeps his pockets full as he travels between cities. That isn't to say he hasn't failed....there are merely none left to spread the tale.

Casually cruel
- Vicious with an almost animalistic view on human lives, he values nothing except the ability to dominate over another

All-around asshole
- He doesn't seem to have a moral code at all, specializing in intimidation and bloodshed

History:

Jaechar drifts mostly between the Xanthe Islands and Fenlei, but prefers Fenlei for its richer employers - thereis, after all, always one government official or other trying to off someone. He gives chimeras a bad reputation and enjoys augmenting the prejudice by acting /exactly/ as those fearing them would expect: feral and bloodthirsty.

After being mortally wounded, he encountered a bit of tricky soul magic that is used to tie his heart to his body (in order to stay alive). The magic was "dissociated" from the original enchanter and now feeds off his inate elemental soul magic in order to be sustained. While he can siphon off tiny amounts of magic for use (thereby slowing his heart) any large magics will literally cause his his heart to stop. The spell is like a tiny ticking timebomb though, since it is never quite certain how stable the magic is or when he may just very well go into cardiac arrest and die.
